It's becoming colder every day now, autumn has arrived. Summer has been loaded with activities and so my blog still lacks some posts. But I don't want to just leave those late summer - early autumn posts be. If you're following me on Instagram, you know that there are some things waiting. And because it's Wednesday already, I send this post to the "I like on Wednesdays" project.
One of the highlights this summer was the cabin on mount Grimming. The Grimming mountain is somehow the holy mountain of the ennsvalley, each community around it claims to have the best view of it (and I, having grown up in Stainach, can tell you that it really is the view from Stainach ;-) ). The mountain was believed to be the highest mountain of the county for a long time, standing there, impressively detached. I am no mountaineer, because of my vertigo (and I'm not so fit, but this could be changed quite easily) and so I've never been on top of it. But the only cabin is not very far up and a really easy walk, that all of us do at the age of primary school, latest. It is stated to be 1,25 hours long (when I was younger the waymark said 1 hour, so it seems they try to keep up with my fitness...) and even unexperienced walkers can make it in that time-period.

After our rainy holidays we used the short sunshine period, took my mum and walked up to the Grimming cabin. From there we went further to Tressenstein (a tiny little peak in front of Grimming, another half hour away from the cabin), but as the rain clouds became darker and came nearer we turned to go back.

My now five years old godchild (oh my, how time goes by!) has uttered the wish to walk to the Grimming cabin for some time now. But with her tiny little babysister Mrs. Z. can't take half a day off to walk there, and the minimiss is too little for such a walk. Mr. Z. doesn't have plenty time and so that's the perfect opportunity to be a great godparent. Mrs. Z. is a bit unsure about the way being to long, but we stated that we could turn at any time. And so the splendid fellow, the godchild and I went, carrying a lot of motivation with us.
We start at the Trautenfels castle (the museum being the perfect rainy weather programm). From there it is not very far to the meadows of the Moarfarm, that belong to the agricultural research centre of Raumberg. Here are the grazing lands of organic cattle, chickens and pigs. For me the pigs are the very special thing here, as sadly, it is still very unusual here to see free range pigs (cattle is frequent). I can spend hours watching those lively animals. And the walk here is still interesting for my godchild.

As the way leads on I notice that the motivation of the little miss Z. is fading. But as I ask her if she wants to go back she tells me, that she will make it all the way up to the cabin. And at least it doesn't take long until we reach the forest. Well, the forest is not necessarily the ultimate adventure for miss Z., as she lives at the edge of a forest herself. But here the way starts and that means there are waymarkers. I can remember when my enChanting Cousin and I were hiking with our families in our childhood, we always watched out for the waymarkers (and I have always been the last to see them). And so I start the game. After the third waymarker I invent a new rule: everybody who sees a waymarker has to wait there for the rest of the group (or else the child is on top of the mountain while I struggle to follow to the cabin...). Having gone have way we stop at a well to drink (that well is so cool). Then we walk on, quite fast, until we reach the stairs that lead to the cabin. And suddenly miss Z. is tired. "I don't want to play that game anymore." she states. As I tell her to look up to where the stairs lead she grins and runs up the stairs. Energy is full back and there's even enough left for climbing the little rock, that was a castle in my childhood imagination.

At the cabin we have lemonade, soup and waffles (the splendid fellow eats up what is too much), so that there will be plenty energy for the walk back. The food tastes good, which is a great compliment (the child is as fussy as I am :-) ) and the hosts are really friendly with kids (and everybody else). Once more I have the feeling that I'm here to seldom.
The way back is even quicker, as it goes down. The grandparents of miss Z. take us from Trautenfels and we are all so proud. Miss Z. because she made the whole way up to the Grimming cabin and most of the way back on her own and I because miss Z. made the way up to the Grimming cabin and most of the way back on her own feet.
Cu,
Viki
